When things are not as they seem.....

Hello everyone!

Did the title make you think? I hope so because it refers to my entry for the Anything but Cute Challenge Blog (I was also going to put it into Mixed Media World but didnt finish it in time!)

OK - Anything But Cute Challenge is

We all like Happy Mail right? That feeling of being spoiled rotten when you receive a handmade card from someone is better than being wrapped up in a soft blanket near a fire, sipping on a hot latte (although I would be sipping on a Pumpkin Spice Latte-loves it!) So, for this challenge I would love to see some mixed media Christmas cards, tags, ATC's or whatever papercrafts you are mailing to a friend. Make sure they are inspired by the Spirit of the Season! Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!

Here is my entry -

Now this is for someone who lives nearby, she is such a nice lady and has Macular Degeneration
and as a result is now partially sighted.   So this is actually a sensory card, its a little larger size than normal and its FULL of texture so she can run her fingers over it.

She can see the shiny gold card, then over that I have created a background with Luna Lights paper.  This is an old product and what I did was put different acrylics in gold and silver (some were glitter paints, some were pigments and others craft paints) you put a second sheet of Luna paper over it and squash it up.  Peel them back and you are left with a textured finish - to this I added embossing powders - which I heated up.

Then I did the Tim Holtz rossette flower but instead of a flower I used it as a concertina edge on some rough glitter card, the gold card was then embossed, and the Paper Artsy stamp is quite a bold stamp anyway.  However, behind the PA stamped image I sprinkled lots of Cinnamon onto some ds tape, so it smells of Christmas as well.

Next I added silver rossette flowers made from the Tim Holtz die - again these were in a different paper, a very smooth silver paper.

Added further texture with a nice ribbon, inside the words are very large so she will be able to read them.

I was delighted to have an honourable mention from Anything But Cute for my "variations on a theme" and it was also picked out over at Mixed Media World - thankyou!!!

I am also going to enter this into the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge which is Gold/Silver

Thank you so much for visiting and perhaps you have commented, I hope so because its always lovely to read what you have put.

Take care and have a lovely Sunday evening!

Cathryn, I am so touched by your use of the two additional senses of touch and smell so your friend can enjoy your lovely card! I would have never thought of adding cinnamon--what a perfectly genius idea! I'm sure this put her in a festive mood! I love that Santa front and center, the use of the rosettes, both in their completed form with that beautiful silver paper and along the edge for extra texture. This is HAPPY mail, indeed!

Thank you for joining our You've Got Happy Mail challenge at Anything But Cute! Merry Christmas and hugs! Sara Emily DT
